Writer's Digest powerful critique:
This collection of poems is aided by unique drawings from high school students. ...David writes in a warm inspiring style. His poems have substance and are thought provoking. It would be interesting if some of these poems could be turned into songs accompanied by a guitar, which could also improve the commercial success of this book. Teenagers as well as adults will be encouraged by David's writings. In our visual world the unique drawings by the students provide an extra touch of creativity. The whole concept of this book is unique and the author needs to be commended on his excellent approach. ...Considering everything, this is a very good book in virtually every aspect, technically as well as regarding the content. Great execution of a creative inspiring concept! Well done!
My 8th grade art students were thrilled to have the opportunity to create illustrations for a professional author. Mr. Essel clearly presented his ideas and enthusiasm about the poems for this book to the class. This allowed the students to ask direct questions of the author to help them understand the poems' meanings. I am so proud of all of my art students' talent and enthusiasm for this unique opportunity to have their art nationally published at such a young age. They all are very excited for the first book to be released.

My students really enjoyed drawing the illustrations for David's poetry. John Sauter would like to be a poet himself. He started illustrating his own poetry after he experienced illustrating David's poetry.
