Just surviving 2020 was a big deal for many people.
There are still so many people struggling with the pandemic, finances, relationship issues are off the charts, and addictions are rising faster than anyone could believe.
So how do we turn this around, and make 2021 a year of success?
For the past 30 years, number one best-selling author, counselor, and minister David Essel has been helping people to get grounded, and create incredibly powerful goals, and achieve every one of them.
Below, David gives several tips that you can start working on today so you have success in 2021!
“The year of the pandemic, we will never forget. But we probably should try our best to put it behind us in order to move forward with grace, and an opportunity to create next year as a year of pure success for you.
I’ve never been a Pollyanna type of a counselor, so I’m not going to tell you it’s going to be super easy, I’m only going to be telling you it will be worth the effort to change if you follow these tips today.
Number One. Get the hell off the media! Still to this day, I work with clients who have become addicted to social media, television, radio, podcasts continue to push conspiracy theory stuff that’s been going on for a year now over and over and over again.
What are the benefits of paying attention to these conspiracy theories and rabbit holes?
The answer? Not one damn thing.
It’s time for us all to cut way back on the amount of time we spend on media and social media to make next year an amazing opportunity for growth.
Number Two. We must all stop talking about Covid, the pandemic, how terrible it is, how 2020 was the worst year of our lives.
I was listening to a basketball coach the other day talking to his team and he said this: “If I hear one more person during practice or on the bench during the game, complaining about the lack of fans, complaining about Covid, you will not play for the next several games. We have lost focus, we’re spending way too much time talking to each other about something that is out of our control versus staying focused on what we’re supposed to be doing and that is playing good basketball.” Right on.
Number Three. Begin today reading deeper books on spirituality, books on people who have overcome great hardships in life… start to fill your mind with a potential of change.
We all know change is hard. Even letting go of complaining about Covid is hard for many people. And one of the ways to make this change is to start to fill our minds with the possibility of success in 2021 and become inspired by reading about other people who have overcome great challenges in life.
Number Four. Hire a counselor, life coach, therapist, minister… get a professional on your side to hold you accountable to the goals that you want to achieve in 2021.
I say this all the time: I have counselors, I have coaches, I’m involved with mastermind groups to make sure that I’m doing the best I can to serve as many people as possible. I highly recommend that you do the same thing.
Number Five. Create joy in your life every week. What does that mean to you? Does it mean going to the mountains every weekend to hike? The beaches to relax? Streams to fish?
Does it mean taking an art class? A photography class? Does it mean volunteering and helping at a community center in your area?
We’ve got to create joy. I hear people all the time saying “when the pandemic is over I can’t wait to get back to normal living.“
Guess what gang? This could be our “normal“ for a very long time. So let’s get over this whole thing that life is going to be great when COVID is gone, because no one has any idea if and when it’ll ever be totally gone.
So instead of procrastinating on taking care of your mind, your body, finances, or relationships… Let’s set goals right now that we can smash in 2021 and not hide behind the year 2020 as a reason that we aren’t maximizing our potential in life.
I honestly believe that the year 2021 can be fantastic for all of us!
Will there be bumps in the road? Hell yes. Both my parents are dying right now, my mom is suffering from one of the worst cases of dementia and it just sucks to watch her suffer, but this is one of the bumps in my life, one of the bumps on my life road that I have to be willing to deal with, and thank God I have a brother and sister to assist and who are really taken a major role in the caregiving for my mom and dad.
I state the above not to get sympathy from you, but just to let you know that I am only human, just like you, I have major struggles in my life I’m dealing with right now but I’m not going to allow those struggles to lead me to procrastinate on doing something major, massive and important in the year 2021.
We will always have challenges. Let’s turn them into an opportunity to change our mindset in our lives, which might just change the lives of others around us as well. It’s time to rock! Wishing you success in 2021!“
