Stop grinding after your goals!
Over the past 30 years, I have been one of the leaders in the personal growth industry telling people to grind, grind, grind when they’re going after major goals.
And even today, for my clients that are starting a new business or expanding, they do have to grind for a period of time.
60, 70, 80 hour work weeks when you’re opening a new business are not unheard of and I understand that’s what it takes to become successful… In the beginning!
But what about now? Are you still grinding, are you still pushing the river, trying to accomplish goals that seem elusive?
So what do we do?
For myself, I’ve decided to change the story.
For the past 42 years as a counselor, minister, number one best-selling author, and master life coach I have gone after huge goals, I have a ground myself to a halt.
I’ve ground myself into mental exhaustion.
I have led myself into addiction, depression, anxiety, and more.
So now I’m teaching a different principle. Let’s go after our goals with a slower movement, let’s go after our goals with more ease, less striving, less grinding.
Does that make sense?
I’m not saying don’t work hard, I’m saying don’t put so much stress on yourself mentally and emotionally that you burn out!
Burn out can be seen in a drop in our attitude, arguing with our partner and children more, addiction uptake and uptick, insomnia, there is a whole list of negative effects when we’re grinding, grinding, grinding.
So I’m going to recommend the following:
Number One. Choose that major goal that you want to accomplish, set out the steps of action to make it happen, and then mentally ease yourself into the steps every day.
Number Two. If success doesn’t come quick enough, it rarely does regarding our own mind. Slow down. Slow down. Slow down.
Get expert advice from someone else, have them show you, if you don’t work with me, how you can still be very successful without the pushing, the grinding, the striving.
The pandemic has offered so much stress, so many challenges both personal, financial, and in our relationships that we need to start changing our whole approach to the way we live.
Stop the grinding!
I believe for the first 15 years of my career the grind was important, I was traveling 40 weeks a year as a speaker, it really did set myself up for success in the long term… But there were periods of time I suffered greatly.
When I started to reach emotional burnout from my workaholism, from my constant grinding, I saw my drinking start to go up.
I saw my frustration increase.
So I finally woke up got completely sober a very long time ago, and over the years I’ve changed my philosophy greatly from the grinding philosophy to let’s let it flow. Do the work we need to do daily, without the mental exhaustion that always happens when we’re grinding, grinding, grinding.
