When people desire to become sober from their battle with alcohol, we have taught individuals for 30+ years about the importance of going after “Permanent Alcohol/Addiction Recovery“, instead of anything less than that.
Permanent alcohol recovery says I am making a commitment for the rest of my life to stay sober… Not just one day at a time or one week at a time or one month at a time… But I am looking to get sober for life.
That’s the program we’ve been teaching with such an incredibly high success rate for 30 years.
Now, the question we often receive in our work is, “what is a bottom?“
A Bottom is simply a choice to get sober.
Some people hit a bottom at 15 years of age after their first hangover and they choose never to drink again.
Other people wait until their husband or wife is going to leave them, and then they decide to save the marriage by getting sober, so the fact that their partner was going to leave them was their bottom.
Now, on the other hand, I’ve worked with clients that have lost their driver’s license because of too many DUIs, and who continue to drink on a daily basis, they will leave our program and on the way out the door they will say “I really love this alcohol I’m never giving it up.“
And for these individuals? They may never hit a bottom.
So a bottom is a choice. A choice to stop drinking.
The bottom is also a choice in which is the perfect time to ask for help.
Very few of us, including myself a former alcoholic for 30 years, can ever truly get sober for the rest of our lives by ourselves.
So you don’t have to wait for a divorce, or a DUI, in order to say I finally hit my bottom.
You can just say, today is my bottom. Today is the day I end this nonsense with alcohol.
And after making that declaration, get help! Hire a counselor, an addiction recovery coach, a therapist… Whatever it takes just don’t go alone!
Our permanent Alcohol/Addiction Recovery program works for any type of addiction, from alcohol to pot to social media to video games to food to sex to emotional spending… We use the same protocol with all addictions, we want everyone in the mindset of “permanent addiction recovery.“
And you don’t have to be ready to get sober! I’ve never met a soul in my life who was ever truly ready and excited to get sober. I know I wasn’t. But when I hit my bottom, which I will describe in another article, I still wasn’t ready to give up alcohol but I just did the work and my sobriety led to a lifetime of recovery.
