Do you notice a pattern among athletes, actresses, and other people in the public eye over the last few years?
Ever since the pandemic began, we’ve had more and more people coming out admitting their own mental health issues.
The very well-known actor, Jonah Hill, recently deleted his Instagram account after talking about his long-time battle with anxiety.
Many super successful people struggle with the constant pressures to have their products explode successfully, to be viewed as amazing individuals, but with the pressure they’re under, they could be denying their addictions, depression, PTSD experiences as well as anxiety.
Think about all of the athletes including Simone Biles and Michael Phelps, the Olympic gold medalists, who have spoken about their battles with mental health issues just within the last year.
In my private practice of 43 years, we see more and more executives and entrepreneurs coming into our practice struggling with anxiety, self-confidence, and self-esteem! The world would never believe it!
This year I’ve worked with a major-league pitcher who had been battling depression for a number of years. During our work, we got to the core of it, and actually got him off of the anti-depressive medication he was on because it was creating a void in his life, everything seemed numb, and nothing excited him anymore.
When major league athletes and actors come to counselors like myself, you know that they’ve been battling this for a very long time, whatever the issue is, before reaching out for help because they are supposed to be the strong ones! The successful ones! The ones that have their lives all together!
Jonah Hill just did the entire world a benefit by deleting his social media accounts, he has also said that he will not do any more promotional tours for his movies, as a way to take greater control of his mental health.
I love what he’s doing and what he stands for!
More and more people are starting to come to realize that the pandemic has created a lot of mental health issues but it has also simply exposed these issues that have been with these people for so many many years.
